About The Role
As part of our continued growth at AJ Bell, we are recruiting for a UI Designer to join our Design System team and help shape the future of our award-winning digital platforms. Reporting to the Design System Lead, you will work across our direct-to-consumer AJ Bell platform to deliver a large-scale, cohesive design system that spans mobile and web applications. This role is pivotal in creating and maintaining design components and asset libraries that ensure consistency, usability, and accessibility across our platforms. You will collaborate closely with UX designers, developers, and product managers to uphold high standards of design quality and facilitate the adoption of the design system. An exciting rebrand is underway, alongside a comprehensive redesign of the AJ Bell app and website, offering you the opportunity to influence and define our design standards for D2C products.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 4 years' experience in UX/UI design, demonstrating a strong portfolio of relevant work. You should have a good understanding of front-end practices and atomic design principles, with proficiency in Figma, including auto layout, components, variables, and library management. Creativity and curiosity are essential traits, as is the ability to communicate effectively and give/receive constructive feedback. You should be comfortable managing multiple priorities and working collaboratively within a team. Knowledge of WCAG or A11y guidelines is desirable, along with familiarity with tools like Widgetbook. Mentoring junior team members and understanding user psychology are advantageous qualities that will set candidates apart.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop UI components in Figma, applying interaction design and UI best practices to create scalable, reusable elements.
- Create high-quality, responsive user interfaces that prioritize usability, accessibility, and delightful user experiences.
- Maintain and evolve the design system by producing comprehensive component documentation and managing design tokens effectively.
- Approach design challenges with a systems thinking mindset, considering reusability and consistency across platforms and contributing to documentation efforts.
- Take ownership of design components and influence the broader design system strategy, supporting decision-making processes within the team.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with UX designers, developers, and product managers to ensure seamless integration and adoption of design standards.
- Make informed design decisions by balancing user needs, business objectives, accessibility standards, and research insights.
- Communicate ideas, design rationale, and feedback effectively to team members and stakeholders, fostering an environment of continuous improvement.
