Growth path from here is Director of Design → VP Design. What takes 4-5 years elsewhere happens in 1-2 here.
We've been AI-first since December 2023: Every design proposal ships with an AI review link, and Figma AI runs in our live production pipeline, shipping real work. You'd start where most teams are still trying to get.
This position is remote, with the option to work from our Dubai office (with 0% income tax), if preferred (relocation and visa sponsorship support available).
Role Overview
Puffy, a market-leading, nine-figure D2C brand and Top 5 US mattress brand with over $1 billion in sales, is hiring an AI-First UI/UX Design Manager to own the design function behind Puffy.com with full authority over the design system, site and landing page experience, the AI-first workflow, CRO experimentation, and the design team, reporting directly to the CEO.
This role exists to convert design output into measurable conversion gains, building the AI-first workflow, design system, and team operating rhythm that let the site's design engine run and scale without day-to-day executive involvement.
The Career Accelerator
This is not a role where you polish mockups, wait in a dev queue, and hand off static specs. The scope is scarce: very few design managers get simultaneous ownership of the design system, the AI-first workflow, the CRO testing roadmap, and the team, plus a direct line to the CEO with no layers in between.
Your first 12 months:
- Develop and enforce an AI-first workflow for the design team and cut handoff time by 40%.
- Build a prompt library and review workflow for product copy, FAQs, size/fit guidance, policy explainers, and localized variants.
- Design for conversational shopping — natural-language search, guided finders, PDP Q&A — with engineering.
- Own the on-site recommendation UI patterns: placements, card density, explainer microcopy, "why this" affordances.
- Execute a CRO roadmap of A/B and multivariate tests against the add-to-cart lift target.
- Bake WCAG 2.2 into the design system with AI-assisted audits paired with manual review.
- Move team operations from sequential to agile with kickoff huddles, resourcing, and mentorship.
- Shape the future of web design at Puffy, where the site is the entire storefront for a $1Billion+ brand.

Own the Design Function End to End, Not a Queue of Requests
- You set the direction, build the systems, and own the outcomes.
- You lead IA, wireframes, high-fidelity comps, prototypes, and motion specs across Home, Category/PLP, PDP, Cart/Checkout, editorial pages, and paid-media LPs.
- You maintain the tokens and components that keep AI-generated variants brand-consistent and fast, and you decide how AI enters the pipeline — which tools, which guardrails, which human QA gates.
- You hold the standard on handoff quality through Dev Mode and structured specs, monitor regressions post-launch, and translate design decisions and experiment results into narratives the CEO acts on in quarterly roadmap reviews.

Become the Design Leader Other D2C Brands Try to Hire
- In most companies, design leaders inherit a system somebody else built and spend their years defending its constraints in review meetings. Here you build it.
- When the CEO decides where the site goes next quarter, your design and experiment narrative is the input to that decision, not a recap of it afterwards.
- You'll leave with an AI-first design operation you designed end to end — and the shipped conversion evidence that it held at scale, which is the part almost nobody in this function can actually show. Puffy has been AI-First since December 2023, so you'll build it with an AI-native toolbox behind you rather than a versioning backlog in front of you.
What You'll Need
- 7–10 years in web design for e-commerce, including 4+ years leading, mentoring, and managing the operations of a design team.
- A portfolio that shows shipped PDP/PLP/Checkout improvements tied to clear business metrics.
- Expert in Figma (components, variables, Dev Mode); strong visual/motion craft and responsive design sensibility.
- Proven experience implementing GenAI tools into a professional design pipeline, with a clear understanding of prompt engineering, quality control, and brand governance.
- Familiarity with AI-shaped UX patterns: conversational search, assistant UI, recommendation modules, and their measurement.
- Comfort collaborating on experiments (A/B vs multi-armed bandits) with Growth; understands trade-offs between optimization speed and causal certainty.
- Working knowledge of WCAG 2.2 and SEO fundamentals for structured content and schema on e-commerce sites.
