Job Title – Samples Operative
Reports to – Samples Senior
Location – Milton Keynes
Department – Samples
Scope of Job – The role supports the end-to-end Samples operation at Milton Keynes, working flexibly across picking, packing, replenishment, sample production, cutting, labelling, sewing, machining, and despatch.
Purpose – To support the efficient operation of the Samples Department by producing, preparing, and despatching high-quality samples in line with agreed service, quality, safety, and productivity standards. The role works flexibly across the department and develops the skills needed to support changing operational priorities.
Responsibilities

Pick, pack and dispatch
- Accurately pick, pack, and dispatch sample orders within agreed service levels and departmental KPIs.
- Check order details, quantities, presentation, and packaging before dispatch, escalating any discrepancies promptly.
- Support the handling of other sample-related requests in line with agreed processes.

Sample production and replenishment
- Produce and replenish samples to the required specification, presentation, and quality standard.
- Become multi-skilled in cutting and labelling processes and work flexibly across production activities as required.
- Work to agreed departmental KPIs, including the target of maintaining performance above 99% where applicable.
- Monitor stock and work in progress, highlighting shortages, defects, or delays to the Samples Senior.

Sewing and machining (if applicable)
- Operate overlocker and flatbed sewing machines safely and competently in line with approved working methods.
- Cut, overlock, and assemble square memo samples for the USA market.
- Produce show lengths, waterfalls, and representative travel lengths for UK and USA showrooms.
- Complete routine checks of equipment before use and report faults or maintenance requirements promptly.

- Complete work accurately and right first time, maintaining the quality standards expected by the business and its brands.
- Identify and share practical ideas that improve safety, quality, efficiency, workflow, or service.

Communication and teamwork
- Communicate clearly and promptly with colleagues, the Samples Senior, and Samples Manager regarding priorities, issues, and daily requirements.
- Work collaboratively with the wider Samples team and support colleagues across operational areas when needed.
- Liaise professionally with internal customers and marketing companies by email or telephone where required.

- Follow all health and safety procedures, safe systems of work, and equipment instructions.
- Report accidents, near misses, hazards, unsafe conditions, defects, and concerns without delay.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working area and use any required personal protective equipment.

- Complete training required for the role and maintain competence across assigned tasks and equipment.
- Carry out other reasonable duties within the scope and level of the role, as directed by the Samples Senior or Samples Manager.

Measures of Success
- Orders, samples, and replenishment activity are completed accurately and within agreed KPIs and service levels.
- Quality standards are consistently achieved, with errors, rework, and waste kept to a minimum.
- Sewing, cutting, labelling, and other assigned equipment are operated safely and effectively.
- Health and safety requirements, standard operating procedures, and housekeeping expectations are followed.
- Positive and reliable contribution to team priorities, flexibility, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications
- GCSEs, or equivalent, including English are desirable.
Experience & Skills
- Relevant training in sewing machine operation, warehouse activity, or safe manual handling is desirable. Role-specific training will be provided where required.
