Financial Controllership Team Role at Marsh

Role Overview

We are seeking a talented individual to join our Financial Controllership team at Marsh. This role will be based in London. This is a hybrid role that requires working at least three days a week in the office.

Responsibilities

The UK Controller – Consulting is responsible for a wide range of controllership activities for the Consulting UK businesses, including:

  • Coordination and management of the month-end close and all project-related activities
  • Integration of acquisitions
  • Support of financial analysis to aid decision-making
  • Ensuring a strong control environment with the implementation, design, and ongoing monitoring of all controls

The jobholder will be supported by a small team and will be responsible for the preparation and management of all controller operations within Consulting UK. They will provide and oversee financial information for Marsh People and Investments and Marsh Management Consulting.

This is a leadership role that provides oversight of US and Local GAAP reporting, coupled with local statutory and regulatory reporting for the above-named business area, covering all relevant Operating Companies. The role is responsible for ensuring that the company’s internal controls and financial compliance responsibilities are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that financial results for local legal entities are accurate. Oversees and is responsible for the preparation of all monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting activities in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Provide insightful analysis to support accounting judgments and business decisions. Support the implementation of new accounting standards in line with Group plans. Manage the application of accounting policies and preparation of papers to support financial accounting decisions.
  • Manage key stakeholders who rely on the finance processes and reported numbers. Ensure that key stakeholders such as FP&A are aware of any changes to processes or accounting policy and communicate the impact of any change or finding.
  • Manage the external auditor relationships, including liaison in relation to audit timetable, deliverables to Audit Committee, fees, and accounting issues; including signing the quarterly management representation letter; attendance at the Audit Committees as and when required.
  • Ensure that all Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) control issues are reported and remediated on a timely basis and the business operates in a SOX compliant manner. Ensures the integrity of financial controls across Consulting functions and ensuring sound controls operate around the financial result. Ensures that authority matrices for transactions are appropriate, understood, and followed.
  • Ensure that the Balance Sheet is reviewed and fairly stated on at least a quarter-end basis (including accounts where judgment is required, e.g., WIP, VAT provisions, employee liabilities) and that those provision judgments also have the approval of local management.
  • Provide strong proactive management for the team including development and mentoring. Support wider team initiatives.
  • Provide assistance with project-based work, including due diligence review of potential acquisitions/disposals, integration of acquisitions, system implementations, assessing the accounting implications of new business projects and capital expenditure, entity elimination projects, control projects, and execution of global/regional strategies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a similar discipline required.
  • Qualified Accountant, preferably ACA, ACCA, or ACMA.
  • Significant experience within finance controllership, with several years of management responsibilities, within a large matrixed organization.
  • Ability to lead and drive change within a transforming, acquisitive, and matrixed organization.
  • Ability to streamline and standardize financial activities and procedures to improve efficiency.
  • Understanding of Oracle Financials: GL and Hyperion Essbase.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with fiduciary management/OCIO/investment consulting business is preferred.
