This is an “on the road” direct sales position. The focus is on meeting customers for a minimum of 3 days per week and on the direct selling of teaching products into engineering departments in FE Colleges and Universities. Ideal candidates will already have the contacts and be selling teaching equipment, measuring instruments or other products into these departments. The important point is to have access to these departments and experience of their purchasing processes. Other customers of interest include military training sites and industrial training providers. The daily activity comprises customer visits and management of the UK pipeline in our CRM system. The monthly requirement is a written report and meeting at the HQ in Halifax.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of a UK sales territory
  • Organise and execute customer appointments in engineering departments in FE Colleges and Universities
  • On the road for at least 3 days per week
  • Occasional attendance at exhibitions, customer events and open days
  • Deliver presentations and product demonstrations
  • Provide useful feedback regarding market conditions and competitor activity
  • Secure orders and generate new leads / opportunities / prospects for engineering teaching equipment sales in FE Colleges and Universities
  • Maintain the UK pipeline in the CRM system
  • Submit a monthly report and attend a monthly meeting at Matrix HQ

Further Requirements

  • Work positively with colleagues in sales, marketing, shipping & finance, and production
  • Identify funding opportunities and curriculum developments
  • Develop relationships with curriculum managers, lecturers, technicians and senior leadership teams
  • Manage and grow existing customer relationships
  • Identify opportunities for repeat business and cross-selling
  • Ensure exceptional customer experience from enquiry through to delivery

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Experience of selling into FE Colleges and / or Universities
  • Excellent relationship-building skills
  • Self-motivated and highly organised
  • Experience managing a geographical sales territory
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Comfortable delivering product demonstrations
  • CRM experience
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Willingness to travel extensively throughout the UK, including overnight stays when required

Desirable

  • Engineering or technical sales experience
  • Manufacturing background
  • Capital equipment sales
  • Public sector tender experience
  • Knowledge of apprenticeship and engineering education markets
