I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

We are looking for a Design Manager to lead and manage the design development and delivery of construction projects, ensuring design solutions meet programme, cost, quality, sustainability, health and safety and compliance requirements. The role is responsible for managing consultants, specialist subcontractors and suppliers, overseeing design programmes, securing design approvals and ensuring designs are buildable, cost effective and compliant with project requirements and relevant legislation.
The successful candidate will work closely with internal project teams, consultants, clients and authorities to drive the design process from procurement through to delivery. They will play an important role in resolving design issues, maintaining effective working relationships across project stakeholders and supporting the development of other members of the design team. This is a site based role reporting to the Technical Lead on the project.
We are looking for candidates with experience managing design through the project lifecycle, with strong knowledge of construction methodology, design delivery and stakeholder management. A relevant degree in Engineering, Building, Quantity Surveying, or a similar construction-related discipline is required, and professional membership of CIOB, CIBSE, or a similar industry body would be advantageous.
