Job Title

The Petcover Group is a growing pet insurance business with offices across the UK, EU, Australia and New Zealand.

We are looking for an Underwriter to join our UK business on a fixed-term contract. This role is ideal for someone either within a junior underwriting role, or someone with veterinary experience who is looking to start a career in insurance.

You will support the underwriting team in assessing commercial and personal insurance risks to protect the insurer, reduce exposure, and contribute to the profitable performance of our product portfolio.

Responsibilities and Activities

  • Prioritise and process underwriting referrals in line with SLA requirements, ensuring timely and accurate decision-making.
  • Review veterinary notes, applications, financials, claims histories and other relevant documentation to identify exposures and ensure appropriate cover is offered.
  • Evaluate claims activity to determine its effect on renewal terms, pricing, and risk appetite.
  • Make underwriting decisions in accordance with agreed authority levels and escalate cases outside guidelines.
  • Review risks falling outside standard underwriting criteria, determining whether cover can be offered and at what terms, conditions, or pricing.
  • Assess previously applied endorsements or exclusions to confirm whether they remain appropriate for the risk.
  • Help sales and customer service teams explain underwriting decisions clearly and professionally to brokers or customers.
  • Identify opportunities to refine product wordings, terms, and underwriting processes to reduce exposure and enhance profitability.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues across underwriting, sales, claims, and operations.
  • Adhere to company policies, underwriting guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Undertake regular learning and development in line with company and FCA expectations.
  • Provide administrative and analytical support as required.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
