Job Introduction
Undergraduate Industrial Placement Student, Synthetic Chemistry
Our site in Hoddesdon hosts synthetic chemists dedicated to discovering efficient methods for synthesizing novel compounds that have the potential to become future medicines. This involves the design, route development, and large-scale synthesis (multi-kilogram) of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).
We are currently seeking undergraduate chemistry students to join our teams for a 12-month Synthetic Chemistry Industrial Placement. This placement provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in modern synthetic chemistry laboratories using state-of-the-art equipment.
You will develop your practical skills and gain exposure to the principles and techniques required by synthetic chemists. Utilizing your knowledge and problem-solving abilities, you will contribute to a methodology-based project with guidance and support from a lab-based chemist.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
