Underground Electrician

ICL Boulby Mine | North Yorkshire Coast

Work 1,100 metres beneath the North Yorkshire coast. Develop skills few electricians will ever gain.

Most electrical maintenance roles look the same. This one does not.

At ICL Boulby, you will work in one of the deepest mines in Europe and the world's only operational polyhalite mine, maintaining and troubleshooting highly specialised equipment in a challenging underground environment.

This is not a typical factory, workshop or manufacturing site. It is a unique opportunity to build technical expertise that is difficult to find anywhere else in the UK, while joining a stable, global organisation that is vital to agriculture and industry worldwide.

If you enjoy solving problems, working on complex equipment and developing specialist skills, this could be the opportunity you have been looking for.

The Opportunity

As an Underground Electrician, you will play a critical role in maintaining the equipment and infrastructure that keeps our mining operation running safely and efficiently.

Working as part of a highly skilled underground engineering team, you will inspect, maintain, fault-find and repair a wide range of electrical systems, from heavy mining machinery and conveyor networks to switchgear, communication systems and underground lighting infrastructure.

No two days are the same. One shift may involve planned maintenance activities, while the next could see you diagnosing faults and restoring critical equipment to minimise downtime and support production.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
