Group Underwriter | Asset Finance
Our client is a growing asset finance business with ambitious expansion plans and is looking to appoint a Group Underwriter to join their underwriting team. This is an excellent opportunity for a junior underwriting professional to join a business with a strong presence across the UK and play a key role in supporting its continued growth.
The Role
As a Group Underwriter, you will be responsible for delivering risk-based assessments on finance proposals received across the group. You'll analyse financial information, make informed underwriting decisions, and work closely with sales and support teams to ensure high-quality lending decisions are made.
You'll also have the opportunity to contribute to new initiatives, system improvements, and the ongoing development of underwriting processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and underwrite finance proposals from across the group using a risk-based approach.
- Analyse credit searches, financial accounts, cash flow information, and wider business information to make informed lending decisions.
- Confidently communicate and justify underwriting decisions to sales and support teams.
- Provide constructive feedback to help improve the quality of future submissions.
- Assist with the preparation and presentation of credit papers for senior underwriters, senior management and the Board.
- Support the implementation of new initiatives, pilot schemes, systems and processes.
- Carry out audits on completed deals and make recommendations where appropriate.
- Process financial documentation for own-book deals.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure an efficient workflow.
- Use Microsoft Office and internal CRM systems to manage information and support underwriting activity.
- Provide additional support to the underwriting function as required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
