Motor Fleet Underwriter

Location: Manchester

Working Arrangement: Hybrid

Contract: 12-month fixed-term contract, covering maternity leave

Expected Start: October/November

Overview

Our client, an international insurance business, is looking for an experienced Motor Fleet Underwriter to join its Manchester-based team on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

The role covers new and existing motor fleet business across a broad range of clients, with significant broker interaction and exposure to complex technical risks. You will have scope to develop the portfolio, identify new business opportunities, and use your underwriting expertise to support profitable growth.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite motor fleet risks within agreed authority and in line with the business plan.
  • Manage new and existing business to support portfolio performance and growth.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, customers, business partners, and colleagues.
  • Develop broker relationships and new business opportunities in line with business objectives.
  • Apply the reinsurance strategy appropriately to manage risk.
  • Contribute expertise to underwriting strategy, best practice, and technical development.
  • Monitor market dynamics and use market-cycle awareness to inform underwriting decisions.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in motor fleet underwriting within the insurance industry.
  • Strong understanding of profit drivers and strategic decision-making supporting long-term growth.
  • Ability to analyse data and modelled results.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and underwriting tools.
  • Good understanding of legal, regulatory, and risk-profiling requirements.
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Experience working directly with brokers and building effective relationships.
