What Is The Opportunity?
We’re looking for an Underwriter to join our Hull & War team. If you’re a broker-to-underwriter transitioner or an experienced Hull & War underwriter seeking new challenges, this is an exciting chance to:
- Work on a broad and diverse Lloyd’s Marine portfolio while supporting a growing account.
- Take ownership of new business and renewals across your entire portfolio.
- Build and develop broker relationships within the Lloyd’s market.
Hybrid working model: Full-time hybrid policy: Three days on-site, two at home (or pro-rated for part-time roles).
What Will You Do?
- Drive profitable growth and consistent underwriting performance while upholding operational standards.
- Ensure business aligns with Travelers’ policies, procedures, audit requirements, and Lloyd’s Underwriting Management Standards, including:
- Authority limits
- Lloyd’s Individual Registration Byelaw approvals
- Annually confirmed unit business plans
- Develop Line of Business strategy by researching market trends, competitors, economic factors, and industry opportunities.
- Accurate use of underwriting systems to enter quotes, risks, and endorsements for:
- Reporting compliance
- Statistical modelling
- Regulatory needs (including internal audits)

Additional responsibilities:
- Gather data and prepare underwriting policy/standard report summaries.
- Stay informed on global market factors and geopolitical risks.
- Promote Travelers’ underwriting philosophy by building strong relationships with agents, brokers, and clients.
- Mentor junior team members as needed.
- Take on additional duties as required.
Who Are We Looking For?
Preferences and Attributes
A candidate should ideally exhibit:

Experience within Lloyd’s market, including:
- Internal & external impacts (e.g., regulatory, economic factors).
- A foundation of Hull & War underwriting knowledge.

Developing technical profitability and understanding of underwriting authority.

Strong judgment, decision-making, communication, and teamwork.

Intermediate proficiency in:
- Relationship management (building, maintaining, and fostering key partnerships).
- Analytical thinking (problem-solving backed by market knowledge).
- Business & financial acumen (impact analysis of underwriting decisions on profitability).
- Product technical knowledge (applied and self-improving).

Reviewing and calibrating your ACII qualifications (undergoing study or early).

Application of broker market knowledge from previous Lloyd’s-based experience.
Must-Haves
- Experience working in the London Market, in either an underwriting or brokerage environment.
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent qualification.
