Job summary
Working within the Marine Specialty Ipswich/Manchester as Underwriter for Marine Cargo & Freight Liability business.
Main duties
- Underwriting and reviewing new and renewal risks, taking into account type of risk, nature of subject matter, limits, voyages, stock locations, turnover, rating guidelines and claims experience.
- Production and distribution of policy documentation.
- Input and maintain accurate records within the Underwriting and Accounts systems and capture relevant data to allow for the successful monitoring and analysis of risks written.
- Monitor risks written that are due for renewal.
- Prepare reports and statistical information as required by the Underwriters.
- Liaise with brokers and policy holders to obtain information to provide a quote and produce insurance documentation. Chase for outstanding premium/adjustments/declarations.
- Raise invoices/credits as required in relation to the policy wording.
- Liaise with other departments in London and Chaucer as required.
- Liaise with brokers and clients to develop good working relationships.
- Attend training sessions and other meetings, as and when required.
- Work collaboratively to support Senior Development Underwriter.

Regulatory responsibilities
- Comply with all policies and procedures and ensure that due regard is paid to providing good customer outcomes and the fair treatment of customers.
- Manage the relationships with Customers, Agents and Service Providers:
- Advise, assist and service customers on insurance and risk matters to promote customers' satisfaction.
Skills and Competencies
- Experience working with a marine underwriting background, with an in-depth knowledge of marine cargo clauses.
- Organised and able to work to tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
- Able to communicate with different levels and is adaptable.
- Works as part of a team and able to work in a pressured environment.

Education
- 5 GCSE passes (minimum Grade C or new grade 5), including Maths and English.
- 3 A Levels A-C or equivalent.
- ACII or equivalent.
