Purpose of the Role

AEGIS London is seeking a Delegated Property Underwriter to help provide maternity cover on a 16-18 months basis. The ideal candidate will already have full underwriting authority and have experience of both the Canadian and US Binder market.

It requires a solid understanding of contracts and wordings, the delegated compliance process, RMS modelling output and the ability to analyse Risk Level data in detail. This role will focus on the renewal of existing Canadian contracts and to provide support to the Class Underwriters, as required. As the year progresses there may be a need to offer the same support on the US binder account.

All of this should be combined with experience in various product types, strong broker connections and long-standing dealings with the key clients.
This role would likely suit an experienced Underwriter looking for a short term role within a market leading high performing team or an Assistant Underwriter looking to further their underwriting knowledge and experience in the same setting. We are also open to hearing from profiles who are looking to re-enter the market after a period in retirement or similar.

Duties and Accountabilities

  • Assist in underwriting the NMPBRW (International Binders) account on behalf of Syndicate 1225 in accordance with personal underwriting authorities and the Syndicate’s underwriting procedures, referring risks to the Class Underwriter, Head of Department or Active Underwriter when or if required.
  • Assist in delivering the required business mix, planned premium income and ULRs as agreed within the syndicate business plan (SBF), and contribute new ideas and concepts, where appropriate, to support risk selection and portfolio management.
  • Analyse and evaluate upcoming renewal contracts with a view to recommend, benchmark and price risks.
  • Prepare and present detailed Peer Review notes, which include pricing model output, contract and rating changes and Modelled Pre- Pricing analysis (RMS).
  • Lead/assist in renewal discussions with both London Broker and Coverholder.
  • Proactively monitor the existing portfolio including quarterly rate movement analysis, CAT Load movements and EPI monitoring.
  • Help maintain and service strong relationships with Insureds, distributions partners, and reinsurers.
  • Ensure entries are properly recorded onto relevant internal systems in a timely manner whilst ensuring accuracy of data with relation to both underwriting and aggregated line exposures.
  • Work alongside the Claims division to manage problem risks, restructuring proposals, and workout areas.
  • Comply with all applicable internal and external laws, regulations, sanctions, policies, procedures and guidance.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
