Job Description

Sompo has a unique opportunity for an Underwriter in our Downstream Energy team in our Energy business.

Sompo International Holdings Ltd. (Sompo International) is a global specialty provider of property and casualty insurance and reinsurance. What you’ll be doing:

  • Support the delivery of the underwriting business plan; assisting with renewals and review of new business for Downstream and Power accounts.
  • Use expertise to select and underwrite profitable business to secure retention on existing and new clients.
  • Servicing the existing book of business with regards to endorsement review, market updates and meetings.
  • Review and presentation of data ahead of internal meetings with analysis of the key reportable metrics.
  • Preparing information for underwriting purposes, specifically regarding account pricing, engineering overviews and account performance analysis.
  • Coordinating RMS modelling with exposure analysis team on an account basis and for roll ups - as well as speak with engineering department where required for further research.
  • Attend client presentations and meetings with brokers – providing updates to the team.
  • Performing Energy market research and client information ahead of key renewals.
  • Demonstrate compliance with and evidencing of conduct risk requirements, underwriting guidelines and internal control requirements.
  • Help educate and mentor more junior members of the team.
  • Oversight of audit requirements, reporting and booking of policies.
  • Ad-hoc tasks & projects as set by the team.

What you’ll bring:

  • Relevant experience within Insurance Industry minimum 4 years.
  • Possess in depth knowledge of the Downstream oil and gas industry and the policy structures and wordings used within the Energy Property market.
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a team-oriented approach.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
  • Numerate and an eye for detail.
  • Ability to organise efficiently and prioritise workload.
  • Comprehensive computer skills, including Microsoft Office Excel etc.
