About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Underwriting Assistant to join our Operations team in London, supporting a busy Energy and Construction portfolio.
This position plays a key role in delivering high-quality operational and administrative support to underwriting teams, ensuring the accurate processing of policies, premiums, endorsements, renewals, and related transactions. The successful candidate will work closely with underwriters, brokers, and internal stakeholders, helping to maintain exceptional service standards while supporting business growth objectives.

About the Team
The Underwriting Support team sits within the broader Operations function and provides a vital link between underwriting teams and operational services. The team is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of underwriting data, supporting policy administration activities, and maintaining high standards of data quality.
Working closely with finance, claims, credit control, and offshore processing teams, the function plays a critical role in supporting efficient business operations and delivering excellent service to both internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
Underwriting Administration
- Accurately process premiums, policies, endorsements, renewals, quotes, and submissions within agreed service standards.
- Maintain underwriting information across relevant systems and databases.
- Support document management activities and ensure records are complete and up to date.
- Assist with month-end processes and reporting requirements.
- Support the resolution of transactional issues relating to premium processing, signings, and cash management.
Stakeholder Support
- Develop strong working relationships with underwriting teams and key business stakeholders.
- Respond promptly to requests for policy and processing information.
- Support renewal activities, including preparation of renewal packs and maintenance of renewal trackers.
- Liaise with brokers regarding account administration and query resolution.
- Escalate significant operational issues where necessary.
Data Quality & Process Improvement
- Ensure a high level of data accuracy and integrity across all activities.
- Identify data quality issues and support corrective actions.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives and operational efficiency projects.
- Support audit, compliance, and governance activities as required.
- Assist with the implementation of operational and system enhancements.
Team Contribution
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across Operations and Underwriting.
- Share knowledge and best practice within the team.
- Participate actively in team meetings and business initiatives.
- Support training and development activities where appropriate.
- Contribute positively to team objectives and a culture of continuous improvement.

Skills & Experience
Essential
- Previous experience in an Underwriting Assistant, Underwriting Support, or similar insurance operations role.
- Experience working within either Energy, Construction, or Specialty Insurance classes, or a general London Market insurance process experience at UA level.
- Experience using insurance administration systems.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective stakeholder management and relationship-building capabilities.
- Proactive approach to problem solving.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
