Underwriting Assistant

Reporting to: Head of Delegated Underwriting and Canadian Liability – Professional Risks

Location: City of London

Position type: Permanent, 35 hours per week

Hybrid: Minimum 4 days in the office, Maximum 1 day working from home

The role

This role will provide full administrative support to the Canadian Liability Underwriting Team.

Key Responsibilities

In supporting the underwriting team's efforts in maintaining a successful and profitable account, you will be involved in the following tasks:

  • Assisting with the processing and reporting of Canadian binding authorities
  • Providing a service to and developing relationships with a panel of brokers
  • Collating information to facilitate the monitoring of the performance of the portfolio
  • Following the Liability team’s administrative procedures and dealing with any issues
  • Liaising with claims personnel and responding to requests for information
  • Undertaking specific ad-hoc projects as and when required
  • Administration of the renewal process including chasing up of outstanding renewals
  • Liaising with administrative support staff and providing assistance where required

Skills and Experience Specification

Essential

  • A minimum of two years’ relevant Liability experience with an insurance company, Lloyd’s syndicate, broking firm, MGA or coverholder.
  • Good organisational skills and a proven ability to solve problems and meet deadlines
  • Experience of working within a similar role (typically one/two years’ experience)
  • Strong analytical skills to assist in the management and reporting of the portfolio
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) to support relationship building
  • Minimum three “A” levels at Grade C or above (or equivalent)
  • A high level of IT literacy

  • Experience of handling binding authority agreements
  • Experience of Canadian business
  • Knowledge of London Market/Lloyd’s placement/administrative processes
  • Relevant insurance qualifications
