About Scraye

Scraye is a startup building an AI platform to help users rent, buy and finance real estate. Renting or buying property can often be a frustrating experience, so we've made it simple for renters, buyers, landlords and agents to transact seamlessly at a fraction of the cost.

Coming from a multitude of backgrounds, we pride ourselves on how dynamic our team is and how much we are able to learn from each other. We're looking for someone seeking the opportunity to make history with a socially impactful technology platform that redefines how the real estate industry transacts.

If you are driven, organised, diligent and want to make a difference, we would love to connect.

About the Role

As Underwriting Associate, you will sit at the intersection of Scraye's fintech products and our referencing function, working as part of the Finance team to support risk and underwriting decisions across both. Taking initiative and ownership of your role is crucial to ensuring decisions are made correctly, consistently and to a high standard.

You will be responsible for assessing affordability and risk on tenant referencing applications, alongside underwriting decisions across Scraye's fintech products, working closely with the Finance team to ensure a consistent, commercially sound approach to risk across the business. Every day is different at a startup, so you'll be learning and growing continuously, with the support and knowledge of the entire team at your disposal.

Please note this is a full-time, office-based role requiring attendance in our Paddington, London office five days per week.

What You'll Do

  • Referencing Underwriting As a natural multitasker and self-starter, you will assess tenant referencing applications — income, credit history, affordability and guarantor requirements — applying referencing criteria consistently while using judgement on edge cases. Taking ownership of a decision from beginning to end is essential.
  • Fintech Underwriting You will assess applications across Scraye's fintech products, applying credit policy to balance risk against conversion, and escalating exceptions where appropriate. You will coordinate with product and risk stakeholders to ensure decisions are timely and well-documented.
  • Compliance & Risk Policy You will ensure underwriting decisions and processes comply with relevant regulatory guidance, landlord and tenant law (including the Renters' Rights Legislation) where applicable to referencing, and internal credit policy. You will proactively monitor regulatory and legislative changes, support their implementation across the business, and provide accurate guidance to internal teams.
  • Process & Growth Operations You will help maintain and improve underwriting processes — maintaining trackers and SLAs, feeding decision patterns back into policy and product, and supporting automation to reduce manual review. Underwriting can be unpredictable, so there may occasionally be a need to assist outside standard working hours where urgent decisions require prompt attention.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Key Traits

We are principally looking for someone who is:

  • Committed and Hard Working We've developed a wonderful culture but recognise that, as an ambitious startup, our team sometimes needs to go above and beyond to achieve our goals. If having a strictly predictable 9am-6pm workday is important to you, this is unlikely to be the right role. Our team works together from our Paddington office five days a week.
  • Highly Capable We aim to give our teammates responsibilities that match their ability. The more initiative you demonstrate and the more ownership you take, the faster your responsibilities and opportunities will grow.
  • Proactive with Strong Commercial Judgement We accomplish a great deal with a focused team. Being proactive, using common sense and understanding how to prioritise decisions that carry the greatest risk or impact are essential qualities for success.
  • Organised and Able to Multitask Although your primary focus will be underwriting, you'll also support other areas of the business when needed. Strong organisational and analytical skills are key.
  • Thrive in a Fast-Paced Environment Life at a startup is constantly evolving. You'll enjoy working in an environment where priorities can change quickly and no two days are the same.
  • Great to Work With We've worked hard to build a team that is talented, respectful, collaborative and supportive. We value people who contribute positively to our culture and enjoy working as part of a close-knit team.
