Job Title: Underwriter – Delegated Property

Job Purpose

To enable the Delegated Property team to service and continually optimise the existing portfolio of business, as well as create new business opportunities and develop the reputation and relationships in the insurance markets. In this evolving business environment, the underwriter should be self-driven and motivated as well as flexible in terms of working arrangements as the role may involve a combination of time spent at Lloyd’s, in the office, travelling and working remotely.

Key Responsibilities

  • To underwrite renewal and new business both at Lloyd’s and through the Company always in accordance with the Business Plan.
  • To work collaboratively with the Unit Head, Deputy Unit Head and other Senior Underwriters to evolve the team’s strategy and develop an annual business plan.
  • To liaise with pricing actuaries in ad hoc pricing of risk, and the development and maintenance of various pricing tools, including but not limited to Vipr and Power BI.
  • To collate the Departments MI using a suite of products including Power BI.
  • To promote the reputation and brand of the team and company through travel, new product development and identifying marketing opportunities
  • To establish, maintain and grow a broker network in the London Market and beyond
  • To identify and research new product opportunities and also progressive technology that will further our business and appreciation of risk
  • To ensure underwriting files are maintained in good order

Skills And Experience Specification

  • An experienced Underwriter with a good reputation, sound technical underwriting knowledge and strong contacts across the London Market
  • Highly ‘tech savvy’ with an interest in harnessing systems to streamline processes.
  • Ideally a minimum 5 years in the insurance industry
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products – Outlook, Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Power BI
  • Electronic Trading
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong numerical and statistical skills and high level of attention to detail
  • Good understanding of legal concepts and confidence to apply them
  • Solid negotiating skills and decision-making ability
  • Good relationship building skills with a willingness to develop new and existing business relationships (both internally and externally of the business)
  • Collaborative team player
  • Motivated towards self-development and enjoys assisting in the development of colleagues
