The Role

The Team Underwriting Manager is a first-line leadership role, sitting between Underwriter and Underwriting Manager, with support from a Senior Underwriter. You will support the day-to-day performance of the Underwriting Team while continuing to apply sound lending judgment. Acting as a first point of escalation, you will coach and develop Underwriters, support quality and audit activities, and help embed new controls, processes, and technology. This role is ideal for an experienced Underwriter or lending professional looking to take their first formal step into leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support daily workflow, queue management, and operational cover.
  • Act as the first escalation point for complex or sensitive applications.
  • Coach and develop Underwriters through side-by-side support, case reviews, and constructive feedback.
  • Support onboarding, development plans, and targeted training to address knowledge gaps.
  • Monitor productivity, service levels, decision quality, affordability assessments, and customer outcomes.
  • Use management information and performance data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support audits and quality assurance activity, ensuring findings are addressed through coaching, training, and process improvements.
  • Promote adherence to lending policy, operational controls, and FCA Consumer Duty principles.
  • Help implement new controls, policies, systems, tools, and automation initiatives.
  • Work closely with Quality Assurance, Training, Compliance, Product, and Technology teams.
  • Support the achievement of individual and team performance targets, taking proactive action to address performance gaps.
  • Recognise and celebrate high performance while managing underperformance through coaching, development plans, and formal performance processes where appropriate.
  • Deputise to the Underwriting Manager when required.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
