Underwriting Manager

IPS Group is working exclusively with a well-established and highly successful warranty insurance business who are looking to hire a new Underwriting Manager. With a strong reputation, a significant customer base and a long track record of profitable growth, they're now looking to appoint an experienced Underwriting Manager to lead and develop their underwriting function.

This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for managing a team of underwriters while taking ownership of underwriting strategy, risk appetite, governance and underwriting standards across the business.

The successful individual will play a key role in ensuring underwriting decisions are made consistently, risks are appropriately assessed and the wider portfolio continues to deliver profitable and sustainable growth.

About the Role

As Underwriting Manager, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day management and development of the underwriting team whilst providing strategic direction across the underwriting function. You'll monitor portfolio performance, review claims trends and loss ratios, and use data and insight to drive informed underwriting decisions. Working closely with Claims, Pricing and Data teams, you'll help identify areas for improvement, refine underwriting strategy and ensure strong underwriting discipline is maintained across the business.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
