Underwriting & Pricing Manager

Salary: £75,000 – £100,000+ depending on experience

We are working with an established insurance undertaking looking to appoint an experienced Underwriting & Pricing Manager to take a key role in the development, performance and profitable growth of its non-life insurance portfolio.

This is a senior position offering significant ownership, influence and autonomy, with responsibility for developing and executing underwriting and pricing strategy, monitoring portfolio performance and ensuring sustainable pricing across existing schemes and new business opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead the underwriting and pricing strategy across the business.
  • Monitor and analyse portfolio and scheme performance, identifying trends and recommending actions to improve profitability.
  • Develop pricing methodologies, analytical MI and reporting, making effective use of available data.
  • Maintain appropriate underwriting and pricing policies, procedures and governance frameworks.
  • Work closely with Commercial teams to develop new products, propositions and business opportunities.
  • Analyse competitor and market activity across Retail, Affinity, Embedded, D2C and Aggregator channels.
  • Provide underwriting insight and recommendations to senior stakeholders and distribution partners.
  • Lead and develop the underwriting and pricing function, promoting strong technical and analytical standards.

Experience & Skills

We are looking for someone with a strong background in non-life insurance underwriting and pricing, ideally with experience of Travel and/or Gadget insurance. You should be highly analytical and commercially minded, with the ability to interpret portfolio performance and translate data into clear underwriting and pricing decisions.

The successful candidate will ideally demonstrate:

  • Strong underwriting and pricing experience within non-life insurance.
  • Excellent analytical, numerical and statistical capability.
  • Experience working with and manipulating large datasets.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical MI capabilities.
  • Strong commercial judgement and understanding of portfolio profitability.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills.
  • The confidence to influence decisions and operate with a high degree of autonomy.
  • CIP/ACII or equivalent insurance qualification would be advantageous.
