Underwriting Support Assistant

Leeds | Hybrid Working (3 Days Office / 2 Days Home)
Permanent | Great starting salary + 5% Annual Bonus

Join a Team That's Redefining Underwriting Support!

Looking for more than just an admin role?

Want to build a career where you can develop new skills, work with experienced professionals, and play a genuine part in helping a growing business succeed?

At Markel, we're creating something different.

We're hiring three Underwriting Support Assistants to join our Leeds-based Commercial Lines business. These are brand-new positions within a newly transformed team that sits at the heart of our underwriting operation.

Whether you have experience in insurance, banking, financial services, customer service, administration, or you're looking to take the next step in your career, we'd love to hear from you.

Why This Role?

This isn't a traditional administration position. You'll be part of a team that enables our Underwriters to focus on what they do best by delivering high-quality operational and underwriting support across a diverse range of specialist insurance products.

You'll work closely with Underwriters, Claims, Finance and Brokers, gaining exposure to the wider insurance market while developing valuable technical and commercial skills. Most importantly, you'll join a manager who is passionate about developing people and creating genuine career opportunities.

What You'll Be Doing:

No two days are exactly the same. You'll provide essential support across new business and renewal activities, helping ensure our customers and brokers receive outstanding service.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting Underwriters with a variety of operational and administrative activities
  • Processing policy information and maintaining accurate records
  • Preparing and issuing policy documentation
  • Creating and amending insurance quotes
  • Managing tasks and workflows through Dynamics 365
  • Monitoring diaries and outstanding actions
  • Requesting and tracking surveys and reports
  • Responding to broker and internal stakeholder enquiries via phone and email
  • Working with teams across underwriting, claims and finance
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes and ways of working
  • Supporting projects and wider business initiatives

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
