12-Month Fixed-Term Contract | Salary + 5% Completion Bonus

We're looking for an Underwriting Support Assistant to join our Professional & Management Risks (PMR) Renewals team in Leeds. Whether you're currently working in customer service, a contact centre, sales support, administration, hospitality or financial services, this role offers a genuine opportunity to develop specialist skills and build a long-term career with a global insurance business. Based on insights from the role briefing and current advert, previous insurance experience is not essential as training will be provided.
Working alongside experienced underwriters, you'll play a vital role in helping us retain and grow a £40m+ portfolio spanning Professional Indemnity, Cyber and Management Liability insurance.

What You'll Be Doing:
- Managing inbound broker enquiries and providing outstanding service.
- Making proactive outbound calls to brokers to progress and retain business.
- Chasing quotations, renewal terms and outstanding information.
- Supporting underwriters with policy administration and workflow management.
- Updating systems and maintaining accurate records.
- Managing your own portfolio of renewal activity and priorities.
- Building strong relationships with brokers and internal stakeholders.
- Supporting retention and growth by helping convert opportunities into business.
- Ensuring cases are progressed efficiently and service standards are met.

What We're Looking For:
We're far more interested in your attitude, communication skills and potential than whether you've worked in insurance before.
You'll be successful in this role if you are:

- Organised and able to manage multiple priorities.

- Confident using Microsoft 365 and learning new systems.

We'd Love to Hear From You If You Have Experience In:
- Customer service

- Banking or financial services
- Insurance administration
- Estate agency or property services
- Retail leadership
- Hospitality
- Professional administration roles
Insurance experience is beneficial, but absolutely not essential. If you can demonstrate strong communication, organisation and customer service skills, we want to hear from you.

Typical progression could include:
Underwriting Support Assistant → Assistant Underwriter → Underwriter → Senior Underwriter → Team Leader / Manager
While this role is initially a 12-month FTC, Markel has a strong track record of converting successful fixed-term employees into permanent opportunities as business needs evolve.
