How you will create an impact

Reporting to the Operations Manager, this position is responsible for the management of underwriting support staff. The staff roles managed may include any combination of Technical Assistant or Sr. Technical Assistant. This includes human resource management including mentoring, counseling, goal setting, and staff development. Promotes teamwork and collaboration in partnership with underwriting and other functional teams within the company.

People Management

  • Manages a team of Technical Assistants
  • Actively manages the team in all aspects, such as hiring, performance management, development, and schedule coordination.
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the support unit.
  • First point of escalation for operations staff regarding service issues.
  • Identifies servicing issues and works with the Operations Manager to document the issue and follow up through resolution.

Operations Support

  • Develops key relationships with underwriters and CoE partners to execute the end-to-end Operations processes.
  • Tracks and translates quality, timeliness, productivity, and service delivery requirements into individual, team, and unit metrics.
  • Reviews and manages production and quality control reports and takes appropriate action for improved results.
  • Ensures compliance with workflows and procedures.
  • Reviews workflows/processes in order to identify process efficiencies. Documents workflow/process changes, trains onshore/offshore staff, and implements and monitors change through BAU status.
  • Supports any IT development efforts as a subject matter expert. Acts as the point of coordination and functional subject matter expert for solutions provided and supported by Talbot IT and external software/solution providers.
  • Maintains open and effective communication with underwriters in order to foster partnership and teamwork.
  • Proactively maintains effectiveness when experiencing changes in work responsibilities or environment; adjusts effectively to work within the new structure, process requirements, or culture.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Commercial Insurance experience.
  • Direct team management experience. Ability to build coherent teams and to lead teams through significant operation and cultural change.
  • Experience in the insurance industry, specifically underwriting, with experienced knowledge of the Lloyds market, its regulatory requirements, and the impact this may have on a proposed solution or business change.
  • Coursework completed towards ACII, or other relevant commercial insurance industry designations preferred but not required.
  • Working knowledge of insurance operating systems which are used to rate, code, track, and/or issue insurance policies.
  • Proactive, independent work ethic with strong time management, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent marketing, influencing, negotiating, and communication skills in dealing with C-suite leaders.
