Bring your passion for exceptional customer service and needs-based conversations to a role where you’ll help personal and Advance customers make the most of their banking relationship with HSBC. As a Universal Banker, you’ll welcome customers into the branch, understand what matters to them, provide appropriate solutions and refer them to specialist colleagues when needed.
You’ll complete permitted product sales using the EDRAS model—Engage, Discover, Recommend, Act and Service—while delivering consistent, compliant and professional customer experience. You’ll also encourage customers to use digital and self-service channels where these offer the most convenient solution.

In this role you will:

  • Welcome customers as they enter the branch, creating a positive first impression and identifying how you can support them.
  • Engage personal and advance customers in meaningful conversations to understand their needs, circumstances and financial goals.
  • Acquire new-to-bank customers by explaining relevant HSBC products and services and completing account-opening activities in line with agreed processes.
  • Complete permitted product sales using the EDRAS sales process, excluding material-risk products where applicable.
  • Deepen existing customer relationships by identifying appropriate opportunities to meet additional needs.
  • Promote digital, telephone and self-service channels where appropriate, helping customers choose the most effective way to manage their banking.
  • Protect the Bank by remaining alert to fraud indicators, completing Know Your Customer (KYC) checks, following regulatory and policy requirements, and minimizing operational risk.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
