These are 12-month paid internships starting September 2027. The roles are head office based requiring a minimum of 2 days a week to be worked from our office in Winnersh.
INTRODUCING THE OPPORTUNITY
These intern roles sit within Medical Affairs Excellence and Operations (MxO), part of the wider Medical Affairs department at Boehringer Ingelheim UK & Ireland. MxO helps ensure that patients and healthcare professionals have access to trusted information and appropriate support for the safe and effective use of our medicines, while enabling innovative, efficient and compliant ways of working across the organisation.
The roles will primarily support Medical Information and Named Patient activities, whilst also contributing to wider Medical Affairs initiatives, helping to deliver services and projects that make a difference to patients and healthcare professionals.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Respond to medical enquiries from healthcare professionals and members of the public about Boehringer Ingelheim medicines by phone and email.
- Create and maintain medical content resources, including medical information standard responses, frequently asked questions, and digital content.
- Assist with the named patient provision of unlicensed medication, including receiving, tracking and responding to requests from healthcare professionals, and handling orders for medication resupply.
- Contribute to Medical Affairs projects and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance the quality and efficiency of our services.
- Develop internal communications that highlight the impact of MxO activities, projects, and services across the organisation.
- Use specialist platforms, digital tools and business processes to ensure activities are compliant and efficient.

WHAT YOU WILL GAIN
You will gain hands-on experience across medical information, named patient access, medical communications, and medical affairs projects. You will develop skills in interpreting and communicating scientific information, engaging with healthcare professionals, project coordination, process improvement and use of digital platforms and systems, while working within a regulated healthcare environment.
You will also gain insight into how medicines are supported throughout their lifecycle, from pipeline medicines in development through to those used in everyday clinical practice, and how different teams within a pharmaceutical company work together to improve patient outcomes.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Currently studying for a degree in Biology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry or another Biological Science and completing a placement year as part of the course.
- A minimum of three A levels at grades ABB, or equivalent.
- The right to work in the UK for the full duration of the internship.
- The ability to travel independently to the usual place of work and, where required, to other sites.
- A good understanding of general medical terminology and the ability to gain a deep understanding of specific medical concepts through proactive self-learning.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret information, identify key insights and communicate them clearly.

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
- Experience of scientific writing, literature review
- Experience providing customer, patient or stakeholder support in a work, volunteering or university setting.
