Location: Southend-on-Sea

Salary: Up to £28,500 per annum, depending on experience

Hours: Monday-Thursday 8:00am-5:00pm | Friday 8:00am-1:00pm

A world-leading aerospace component manufacturer is seeking an Upholstery Operative / Upholsterer to join its specialist manufacturing cell in Southend-on-Sea. This is an excellent opportunity for a practical, detail-focused individual with experience in upholstery, production, textiles or a similar manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cut materials into complete kits using drawings, templates, work instructions and samples.
  • Shape and trim foam using appropriate cutting equipment.
  • Apply adhesives by spatula, brush and spray gun.
  • Bond different components to create built-up products and finished parts.
  • Use hand tools including scissors, knives and other workshop equipment.
  • Cover assembled components with materials such as cloth and leather.
  • Fit and dress sewn covers onto cushions and assemblies.
  • Follow documented processes to maintain accurate product traceability.
  • Inspect finished items and maintain consistently high quality standards.
  • Complete rework when identified by management, supervision or inspection.
  • Keep equipment and tools clean, maintained and appropriately lubricated.
  • Report machinery faults or defects to the relevant supervisor.

About You

  • Previous experience in upholstery, industrial sewing or a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with foam, fabric, leather or similar materials.
  • Practical ability with scissors, knives and small hand tools.
  • The ability to follow technical drawings, templates and written instructions.
  • Good attention to detail and a strong focus on workmanship.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

Experience of foam shaping/building would be advantageous, as would previous work within aerospace, automotive, furniture, textiles or another precision production setting.
