Broker Technician – Upstream Energy

The Opportunity
Lawes Consulting Group is working with a leading international specialty insurance broker seeking an experienced Broker Technician to join its established Upstream Energy team in London.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong insurance professional to work within a specialist energy division, supporting the placement and servicing of complex international upstream energy risks.
The successful candidate will work closely with brokers, underwriters and international stakeholders, providing essential technical support across the full insurance placement lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to the Upstream Energy broking team across new business, renewals and mid-term adjustments.
- Prepare and review Market Reform Contracts (MRCs), slips, endorsements and policy documentation.
- Assist with the placement and administration of complex international energy insurance programmes.
- Liaise with Lloyd's and London Market underwriters to ensure accurate and timely processing of documentation.
- Review policy wordings, coverage terms, conditions and endorsements to ensure accuracy and contract certainty.
- Manage premium processing, including signing instructions, debit notes and relevant documentation.
- Maintain accurate client and placement records, ensuring compliance with internal procedures and FCA requirements.
- Support brokers with the preparation of underwriting submissions, schedules and renewal documentation.
- Work collaboratively with internal broking, technical, claims and operations teams to deliver a high standard of service.

Skills & Experience Required
- Previous experience in a Broker Technician or similar technical role within the Lloyd's or London insurance market.
- Experience within Upstream Energy, Offshore Energy or a related specialty insurance class would be highly advantageous.
- Strong working knowledge of MRC slips, endorsements, policy wordings and London Market documentation.
- Understanding of insurance placement processes, contract certainty and premium processing.
- Experience working with complex international insurance programmes.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
- Confident communicator with the ability to build effective relationships with brokers, underwriters and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to manage competing deadlines within a busy, fast-paced environment.
