Role Overview

We are currently looking for a Pilot Scale Upstream Process Development Scientist to join a leading Biologics organisation on a 12-month contract. This is an exciting opportunity for a scientifically-driven professional to contribute to upstream process development activities in a dynamic biotech environment. The role involves working within a collaborative team dedicated to advancing biologics manufacturing processes from lab-scale to pilot-scale, supporting the future pipeline of innovative biopharmaceuticals.

Based in a vibrant scientific hub, the successful candidate will play a key part in designing and executing process development experiments, ensuring data-driven insights and process optimisations. This position offers a unique chance to influence the early-scale manufacturing of biologics and gain valuable experience within a pioneering biologics company.

Key Duties And Responsibilities

Your duties as the Pilot Scale Upstream Process Development Scientist will be varied, however, the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:

  • Perform pilot scale upstream process development activities, including preparation and operation of bioreactors at 50L and 200L scale using single-use systems.
  • Design experiments, plan resourcing, source raw materials, and maintain process equipment to support process optimisation.
  • Conduct harvest process development activities at lab and pilot scale, aiding the strategy for successful harvest processing of biologics.
  • Analyse laboratory data, identify trends, and present findings to line managers and project teams during internal meetings.
  • Collaborate closely with downstream processing teams and GMP facilities to ensure alignment in process scale-up and successful implementation.
  • As the Pilot Scale Upstream Process Development Scientist, you will contribute to continuous process improvements and document process development activities effectively.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
