Urology - Specialist Grade

A substantive opportunity is available for a Specialist Grade Doctor in Urology to join an established regional urology service in the East of England.

The role offers the opportunity to work within a large, experienced multidisciplinary urology team, providing comprehensive general urological care across elective and emergency services. There is also an opportunity to contribute to the regional stone service and develop an appropriate specialist interest within Urology.

The post is offered at 10 PAs, with strong consultant support and mentoring. The current role has an on-call commitment of 1:12, although this remains subject to further job planning as the service develops.

Main Duties

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide management of inpatients and outpatients across elective and emergency urology.
  • Work closely with Consultant Urologists and associated specialities to provide a comprehensive general urological service.
  • Contribute to the regional stone service.
  • Support reducing waiting lists across outpatient clinics and operating lists.
  • Undertake appropriate departmental projects and administrative responsibilities.
  • Contribute to clinical governance, audit, risk management, CPD and revalidation.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Develop an appropriate specialist interest within Urology.

Person Specification

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • MRCS
  • Full GMC registration
  • Experience in general Urology
  • Previous operative experience, including flexible cystoscopy
  • Wide experience managing inpatient and outpatient urological conditions
  • Experience managing urological emergencies in an on-call setting
  • Training and expertise in children's safeguarding
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure
  • Commitment to delivering a high-quality urological service
  • Enthusiasm for service development and teaching
  • Commitment to developing an appropriate specialist interest within Urology.

Desirable

  • FRCS Urol or equivalent
  • Higher degree
  • Independence in core diagnostic and therapeutic urology procedures
  • Previous responsibility for service improvement
  • Management skills
  • Experience in teaching and training
  • Specialist interest in stone disease
  • Research experience or peer-reviewed publications in an area of special interest
  • Good presentation skills.
