Ultrasound Modality Lead Sonographer

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Trust as an Ultrasound Modality Lead Sonographer. We are recruiting for a Band 8A Lead sonographer post, based across both our Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospital sites. Post holders will be responsible for leading the Ultrasound department and managing its day-to-day operations in the absence of senior management.

Responsibilities

The successful candidates will have extensive experience across a wide range of ultrasound modalities, including obstetrics, gynaecology, vascular, and non-obstetric/general medical ultrasound. You will have a proven track record of teaching and mentoring students and staff. The role includes maintaining a clinical workload, performing ultrasound lists at an advanced practitioner level, act as practice educator to trainee and newly qualified sonographers and making clinical judgements based on the assessment and interpretation of ultrasound findings, including complex cases.

The post holders will be expected to lead non-obstetrics ultrasound and provide cross-cover for obstetric ultrasound services, working collaboratively across the Trust to support consistent, high-quality patient care in all ultrasound areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the management and day-to-day running of the specialised services pertaining to the ultrasound unit.
  • Ensure diagnostic targets for the ultrasound service are met.
  • Responsible for the management and development of the specialist service ensuring optimum use of staffing and equipment resources within the modalities.
  • Lead and participate in the clinical audit & clinical governance programmes.
  • Responsible for scanning patients and producing independent reports of these scans including high risk obstetric, non-obstetric and gynaecological patients.
  • Act as practice educator and take an active role in teaching & practical training of student sonographers, specialist registrars & others in training.
  • Responsible for the professional leadership and training of the team, providing a high quality patient focused service.
  • Responsible for sonographer & support staff rota management and liaising with the radiology admin lead and maternity admin team to ensure adequate capacity to meet the demand.
  • Ensure maintenance of equipment and a safe working environment.
  • Provide a service across all sites.

About Us

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute Hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics and maternity services. The Trust’s services at Mount Vernon Hospital include routine day surgery, delivered at a modern treatment centre, a minor injuries unit and outpatient clinics.
