About the role
We want everyone affected by breast cancer to get the right support, at the right time, in the right way. More and more of that happens digitally, and we know we’re not reaching everyone we could. The people we’re designing for are often exhausted, frightened and short of time, and we can’t guess our way to what they need.
We’re building a user experience team from scratch. You’d be one of the first three people in it, alongside a UX designer and a service designer, all reporting to our Head of UX. Research is the part you’d own and build: the studies, the practice behind them, and making sure what we learn stays here and is usable across the charity.
What you’d be working on
You’ll work in multidisciplinary squads, mainly on our support services and fundraising. For the first year or so, most of your time goes on the Universal Offer, a new strategic goal in our services team: who comes to us, who doesn’t and why, and what people need at moments like diagnosis and the end of hospital treatment. That includes properly testing a conversational AI front door and checking that the way we ask supporters to give is free of pressure.
What you’ll do
- Own research and insight for digital: the methods, how research is planned and recruited for, and where the evidence lives once we have it
- Run depth interviews, contextual and diary studies, usability testing, and unmoderated work such as card sorting, tree testing and surveys
- Reuse existing insight and analytics before running anything new, define measurable outcomes up front, and synthesise so the reasoning is visible
- Set up research operations, from consent and data handling to tooling and recruitment, and build a bank of insight colleagues can use themselves
- Reach people usually absent from research, including people with access needs or low digital confidence
- Know when not to research and escalate safeguarding concerns to the designated leads
- Interrogate briefs, run your own workstream, facilitate sessions, and work with product, services and clinical colleagues

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
What you can expect from us
Backing when you tell a project its question doesn’t justify the ask, weekly learning time and a training budget, and space to talk after a difficult session, because this role sits with other people’s fear and grief.
About you
You’ll have run mixed-methods research on digital products or services as part of a multidisciplinary team, and you’ll have the range to choose between qualitative, usability and unmoderated methods, with the confidence to work with numbers as well as sessions.
You’ve set up or improved how research operates, including participant recruitment, and you build understanding that lasts beyond you. You’ve reached people who are usually left out of research, and you put ethics and accessibility into practice: consent, adjustments, handling distress, and knowing how to escalate a safeguarding concern.
You question a brief before executing it, run your own work, and write clearly for people who aren’t researchers. And you can tell us what you’re not good at yet.
