User Researcher (Contract) - £400 p/d - Outside IR35 - 12 months - Remote First (1/2 meet ups per month)
We are seeking an experienced User Researcher for a 12 month contract. This position requires a flexible working pattern with one day in the office every fortnight, while the majority of the time will be spent out in the field conducting user research.
The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, conducting, and analysing user research activities to inform service and product design. You will engage directly with users in their environments to gather qualitative insights, ensuring that user needs and behaviours are central to the development process. Strong experience working within government or Government Digital Service (GDS) environments is essential, as is the ability to work independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.

Skills
- Proven experience in user research, particularly in fieldwork settings
- Strong knowledge of qualitative research methods (interviews, observations, usability testing)
- Ability to plan and conduct user research in diverse environments
- Experience working within government or GDS frameworks
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to analyse and synthesise research findings into actionable insights
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Comfortable working independently and managing own schedule
- Experience presenting research findings to non-technical audiences
- Proficient in planning and reporting user research activities

Software/Tools
- Common user research and collaboration tools (e.g., Dovetail, Optimal Workshop, Microsoft Office Suite)
- Familiarity with survey tools and data analysis software is advantageous
Certifications & Standards
- Experience or familiarity with Government Digital Service (GDS) standards and best practices is required
