User Researcher
Duration: 6 Months
Location: Hybrid (London)
Rate: £425 – £460 per day DOE
Status: OUTSIDE IR35
Clearance: Eligible for SC Clearance
Start Date: ASAP
Summary:
My market leading client are looking to secure the services of a contract-based user researcher to assist with critical project work over the coming months. Ideally coming from a consultancy background and experienced working with public sector deliveries, suitable consultants will need to be available to start within the next few weeks.
Due to the nature of the work involved, it's essential that consultants are eligible for BPSS clearance and have knowledge from working on GDS assignments previously.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain the user research plan, including suitable methods and accessibility considerations.
- Work with UKHSA to identify and recruit participants across relevant operational and organisational user groups.
- Plan, facilitate and analyse interviews, workshops, contextual research and other appropriate research activities.
- Produce clear, traceable findings, prioritised user needs, epics and personas.
- Validate user journeys, service maps, pain points and the future service hypothesis.
- Communicate findings through regular playbacks and contribute to the Discovery Report, Alpha recommendation and Alpha planning.
- Work closely with the Lead UCD, Service Designer, Product Manager and Business Analysts.

Essential experience:
- Significant experience delivering user research within GDS Discovery phases or comparable complex service environments.
- Strong qualitative research, synthesis and facilitation skills.
- Experience researching complex operational services involving multiple user groups and stakeholder needs.
- Ability to translate evidence into prioritised user needs and actionable recommendations.
- Good understanding of accessibility, inclusive research and ethical handling of research data.
- Strong communication skills and confidence working within multidisciplinary teams.
