What if becoming more senior in tax didn’t mean spending less time actually doing tax?

This is an unusual Senior Tax Manager opportunity for someone who has reached a senior level in US/UK private client tax but still genuinely enjoys the technical work.

At Senior Manager level, career progression can increasingly mean more business development, more practice management and less time actually solving complex tax problems.

This role offers a different path.

The opportunity is to become a senior technical resource within a specialist US/UK private client practice, remaining close to complex client matters and being someone colleagues can turn to when the answer isn't straightforward.

Why consider this opportunity?

  • Stay technical as you become more senior Your technical expertise isn't something you'll be expected to move away from. It's one of the main reasons you'll be valuable to the practice.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

  • A compressed 4-day working week Combine a senior-level tax career with a genuinely different working model, alongside two days per week in the Central London office.

  • You don't need to build your career around sales Business development and practice-management experience are useful, but they're not the primary focus of the role. There's no requirement to arrive with a book of business.

  • Work across different areas of private client tax The practice has specialist teams covering HNW Individuals, Trusts & Estates, and Business Owners & Entrepreneurs. The position could work across these areas as a senior technical resource.

  • Your specialism doesn't need to fit one box Your deepest experience could sit within HNW private clients, Trusts & Estates or entrepreneurial/private business tax. What matters is genuine US/UK technical depth, with particularly strong US knowledge highly valued.

This opportunity is best suited to someone already operating at Senior Manager level rather than someone looking for their first promotion into Senior Manager.

If you’re already at that level and would rather solve a difficult US/UK tax problem than spend your career increasingly focused on sales targets and practice management, this is worth exploring.
