Senior Laboratory Technician
In order to support the provision of high quality, practice-based learning, research and innovation, we are looking for a Senior Technician to provide specialist technical expertise and practical support in the disciplines of biochemistry and food chemistry. As part of a technical support team, you will contribute to enabling students and staff to safely, effectively and innovatively undertake practical work using specialist equipment and software in the School’s teaching and learning laboratories.
You will lead by:
Providing technical support for practical classes on the theme of biochemistry and food chemistry, including preparation of answers and materials. Liaise with academic leaders on the scheduling and content of practical classes and support validation and preparatory testing of methods as and when required. Deliver, explain and provide ongoing support advice and training in the use of laboratory equipment to members of staff, students and visitors. Contribute to the routine monthly statutory checks of equipment in the teaching laboratories.
What you will bring
With working knowledge of relevant laboratory health and safety requirements, understanding of the operation and maintenance of general laboratory equipment, ability to plan, prioritize and organize experimental protocols and resources, you will work as part of a team that demonstrates a flexible approach to delivering team results.

Additionally, you will bring
National Higher Diploma or equivalent degree or qualification in a relevant discipline. Recognised and relevant laboratory practical experience. Fluent in the use of computers including word processing, scientific graphs and spreadsheets. Excellent record-keeping skills, including the ability to maintain accurate laboratory notes and inventories. A clear commitment and interest in technical work and a desire to share knowledge and inspire students.
