Calling all aspiring UX Designers! Join our Engineering Development Group and get ready for hands-on experience in an engaging and innovative environment.

We believe in rewarding creativity, teamwork, and having fun while learning. As an intern, you'll have the opportunity to make a real impact by contributing to a UX Design project based on your interests and skill set. Together, we'll push the boundaries of engineering and science.

During your time at MathWorks, you'll have the opportunity to further develop your knowledge of software engineering and UX Design work. You'll also develop foundational professional skills such as effective communication, problem-solving, and time management.

Note: MathWorks summer internships are based in the Cambridge office and are for a three or four-month period starting in July or June respectively.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with a cross-functional development team to improve the user experience for MathWorks products and applications.
  • Transform requirements from early sketches into wireframes and prototypes to address user needs and project vision.
  • Identify ideas to move forward into detailed design and eventually production, based on usability testing, standard methodologies (including accessibility standards), and technical input.
  • Collaborate with development and marketing teams to implement delightful, appropriate and consistent solutions for MathWorks products.

This internship will prepare you for a career at MathWorks starting in our Engineering Development Group (EDG).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates must be pursuing a master's level or a PhD level degree in a technical discipline.

Additional Qualifications

  • STEM degree (e.g. Computer Science, Human Computer Interaction, Design Engineering, Information Design, Architecture, Cognitive Sciences)
  • Knowledge of user-centered design, UX methods, or UI/UX design
  • Ability to grasp technical concepts and translate those to UI representations
  • Experience with visual design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Axure
  • Working knowledge of a programming language (e.g. MATLAB, Python, C++, JavaScript)
