UX DESIGNER - DWP DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION PROGRAMME 🚨
Contract: 6 Months Initial Contract (Likely Extension)
Rate: £450-500 per day (Inside IR35)
Location: Remote (UK) with expensed travel to London or Manchester approximately once per month
Start Date: September 2026

We're supporting a major DWP digital transformation programme and are looking for experienced UX Designers to join a multidisciplinary team delivering user-centred services at scale. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to critical public sector services that impact millions of users across the UK.
The Role
As a UX Designer, you will be responsible for creating seamless, accessible, and user-focused experiences across complex digital services. You'll work closely with researchers, service designers, product owners, developers, and stakeholders to understand user needs and translate insights into intuitive digital experiences.
Key responsibilities include:
- Understanding user needs through research findings and user insights
- Defining UX goals, principles, and experience strategies
- Designing information architecture, navigation structures, and interaction models
- Creating user journeys, wireframes, and experience flows
- Applying human-centred design principles to complex services
- Considering accessibility, inclusion, and varying user contexts throughout the design process
- Applying recognised UX principles such as Hick's Law and Fitt's Law
- Balancing user needs with technical, operational, and business constraints
- Collaborating within agile, multidisciplinary delivery teams
- Supporting the continuous improvement of digital services through evidence-based design decisions

Essential Experience
- Strong commercial experience as a UX Designer
- Excellent understanding of User-Centred Design methodologies
- Experience creating information architecture and user journeys
- Strong interaction design and usability experience
- Ability to translate user research into actionable design solutions
- Experience working on complex digital products, platforms, or services
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Experience working within agile delivery environments

Highly Desirable
- Public Sector or Central Government experience
- DWP, HMRC, Home Office, Ministry of Justice, Defra, DVLA, NHS Digital, Cabinet Office, or similar experience
- Experience working within large-scale transformation programmes
- Knowledge of accessibility and inclusive design standards
- Experience designing services used by diverse user groups
