About us

At National Grid, we keep people connected and society moving. But it’s so much more than that. National Grid provides the environment to make it happen. As we build momentum in the energy transition for all, we don’t plan on leaving any of our customers in the dark. So, join us as a UX Designer, and find your superpower.

National Grid is hiring a UX Designer to join our Technology team. This role can be based at our Warwick, Bristol, or Cardiff offices. This role operates under a hybrid working model. You’ll also have access to our London co-working space if that fits your working pattern.

You'll play a key role in designing intuitive, user-centred digital experiences that make a real impact across National Grid. Working closely with Product Owners, Developers, and stakeholders, you'll turn complex challenges into simple, accessible, and engaging solutions that deliver value for our users and business.

About The Role

We're looking for a talented UX Designer to create intuitive, engaging, and impactful digital experiences that make a real difference to our users. You'll play a key role in shaping how people interact with our products, turning complex challenges into seamless, user-centred solutions that balance customer needs with business goals.

Working as part of a collaborative Agile/Scrum team, you'll partner closely with Product Owners, Product Managers, Developers, and other stakeholders to bring ideas to life. From uncovering user needs and defining user journeys, to creating wireframes, interactive prototypes, and polished high-fidelity designs, you'll influence every stage of the product lifecycle.

Using industry-leading design tools, you'll craft visually compelling and highly functional experiences that are simple, intuitive, and enjoyable to use. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape innovative digital products, champion best-practice user experience design, and ensure every interaction delivers real value for our customers.

What You'll Do

  • Create intuitive, engaging, and accessible digital experiences across web and mobile platforms, ensuring every interaction delivers value for users and supports business objectives.
  • Lead the design process from concept to delivery, transforming ideas and requirements into user journeys, wireframes, mock-ups, and interactive prototypes.
  • Conduct user research and discovery activities, including persona development, journey mapping, and competitor analysis, to uncover insights and inform design decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Product Managers, Developers, and stakeholders in a cross-functional Agile environment to shape innovative digital solutions.
  • Champion the voice of the customer throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring user needs remain at the centre of product planning, design, and delivery.
  • Test and validate design concepts through usability testing, A/B testing, customer feedback, and data analysis, using insight to continuously improve the user experience.
  • Rapidly iterate designs based on research findings, stakeholder feedback, and evolving business priorities, delivering solutions that are both effective and user-friendly.
  • Help develop and maintain design systems, standards, and best practices to create consistent, scalable experiences across our digital products.
  • Ensure all designs meet accessibility requirements and align with brand guidelines, delivering inclusive experiences for a diverse range of users.
  • Actively contribute to Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, and PI planning, helping drive successful product delivery.
  • Partner with Product Owners to refine requirements, prioritise UX activities, and ensure design considerations are embedded within the product roadmap.
  • Present and communicate design concepts, prototypes, and recommendations with confidence, influencing stakeholders and building alignment across teams.
  • Stay ahead of emerging UX/UI trends, tools, and technologies, bringing fresh thinking and innovative ideas to enhance our products and ways of working.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve design processes, challenge conventional thinking, and raise the bar for user experience across the organisation.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
