UX Designers at The FA are responsible for shaping the user experience of digital products and services across our Digital Technology product portfolio. Working within agile, cross-functional product teams, you'll play a key role throughout the product lifecycle, from exploring and validating new ideas to continuously enhancing established products.

As a designer, you'll combine creativity, curiosity, and problem-solving to champion user-centred design. Using design-thinking techniques such as user research, wireframing, and prototyping, you'll help teams create intuitive, accessible, and impactful solutions that meet user needs and deliver meaningful business outcomes.

As part of our Product Design practice, you'll help ensure every experience meets high design and accessibility standards, while contributing to the evolution of our design principles and ways of working.

What will you be doing?

  • Work as a UX Designer within a cross-functional product team, contributing throughout the product lifecycle from discovery through to delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Lead discovery and problem-framing activities alongside Product and Research teams, exploring user needs, behaviours, and opportunities to bring the voice of the customer into decision-making.
  • Design end-to-end user experiences across journeys, creating intuitive layouts, flows, and interaction patterns that balance user needs, business objectives, and technical constraints.
  • Explore, test, and refine solutions using a range of design-thinking techniques, including journey mapping, wireframing, prototyping, usability testing, and user research.
  • Collaborate closely with agile delivery teams, supporting implementation and ensuring a high-quality user experience throughout the development process.
  • Represent the Product Design practice within your product team, ensuring outputs meet FA design standards, align with design principles, and adhere to accessibility guidelines and best practice.
  • Executes additional tasks as required to meet the FA's changing priorities.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures to ensure that the highest standards of health, safety, and well-being can be maintained.
  • As part of the FA's commitment to ensuring a safe environment for everyone in football, every employee will be required to complete a DBS check. The level of the check required will be based on the activity of the specific job role and in line with legislation and government guidance.

What are we looking for?

Essential for the role:

  • Experience working on design projects across the full product lifecycle, from initial concept design to continuous improvement of existing products.
  • Comfortable working at different stages of the design process, whether conducting user research in the discovery phase or using design systems to create UI designs.
  • Experience working as a UX designer in cross-functional, agile product teams. Comfortable collaborating with different functional areas, from product managers and engineers to other UX and UI designers.
  • Infinitely curious about the user, always keen to understand their needs and pain points. Keeps the user at the centre of the design process while using problem-solving skills to design products that meet business objectives.
  • Working knowledge of accessibility guidelines and standards, and applying these to design work.
  • Uses communication skills to bring others on the journey, whether working with team members or presenting to stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working on multiple tasks in parallel, managing time effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Tools and software experience with the following:
    • Apple Mac proficient
    • Primary tools (strong working knowledge):
      • Figma
      • Miro
      • User testing platforms
      • MS Office
    • Secondary tools:
      • JIRA

Beneficial to have:

  • Experience applying continuous discovery techniques to uncover user needs, validate assumptions, and identify opportunities for product improvement.
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled design, research, or prototyping tools and an understanding of their opportunities and limitations.
  • Experience working with product metrics, analytics, and behavioural data to identify opportunities and evaluate design outcomes.
  • Experience contributing to or working with a design system to improve consistency and efficiency across products.

Currently, we are working within a hybrid working model whereby the expectation is to work from your contractual location for part of the week, and as and when required by the team. The remaining days can be worked remotely. We will continue to monitor this model, and it may be adjusted in future if deemed necessary.
