Registered Nurse or Midwife Opportunity
Are you a Registered Nurse or Midwife looking for a rewarding community role where you can make a real difference? We have a unique and exciting opportunity to join the Berkshire Immunisation Team in a 30 hours per week, year-round, fixed-term post until 31 July 2027, supporting safe, effective and high-quality school-aged and community immunisation programmes.
You will be part of a supportive, forward-thinking team delivering high-quality care, improving access to vaccination and helping to protect local communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the central localities of Bracknell, Wokingham and Reading, with further travel across East Berkshire, including RBWM and Slough, and Berkshire West, including Reading and West Berkshire, where required. Appropriate consideration will be given to travel time.
- Flexibility is required to support all functions of the vaccinator role, including 8:00am starts for vaccine collection and transport, clinic set-up by 8:30am, after-school clinics until 6:00pm, Saturday clinics usually once per term, and school holiday clinics across Berkshire.
- Deliver safe, welcoming and effective vaccination clinics for children, young people and eligible adults across schools, community clinics, outreach settings and vaccine bases.
- Assess consent and eligibility, and administer vaccinations in line with Vaccine Group Directions, Patient Group Directions, the NMC Code and Trust policies.
- Build positive relationships with children, young people, families, schools and partner organisations, using clear, compassionate and professional communication.
- Plan, set up and run smooth clinic sessions, including vaccine collection and transport, cold chain management, stock control, clinic set-up and accurate documentation.
- Recognise and escalate clinical, safeguarding, risk or incident concerns promptly, including responding safely in emergency situations such as anaphylaxis.
- Support health promotion, community engagement, follow-up clinics and targeted work to increase uptake and reduce health inequalities.
- Maintain high-quality records, support data quality and contribute to audit, learning, meetings and ongoing service improvement.
