Job Summary

You will plan, develop, and execute the verification and validation strategy for Battery Management System (BMS) firmware and hardware integration on a 400 V high-voltage battery program. Your role focuses on ensuring the BMS firmware is robust, safe, and meets all system requirements. This spans the entire validation spectrum, from Model-in-the-Loop (MiL) and Software-in-the-Loop (SiL) to deep, hands-on testing on Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) simulators.

Success in this role is measured by the reliability of the BMS when it lands on the vehicle. You will ensure 100% test coverage, establish automated regression pipelines, and provide the rigorous verification evidence required by ISO 26262. You will work as a core partner alongside BMS software developers, base software engineers, and systems engineers to catch defects early and clear the software for production release.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define, develop, and execute comprehensive test cases at the MiL, SiL, and HiL levels to validate BMS core logic, including operating modes, state of charge (SoC), state of health (SoH), fault handling, contactor control, and thermal management.
  • Own and maintain the BMS HIL test environment. Develop real-time plant models (cell simulation, thermal behaviour, high-voltage loads) and automate test scripts to simulate nominal and worst-case battery scenarios.
  • Maintain end-to-end requirements traceability using automotive ALM tools (like Polarion). Map system and software requirements to test specifications, test scripts, and execution results to ensure complete verification coverage.
  • Execute verification activities aligned with ISO 26262 for ASIL-rated functions. Generate necessary validation reports, code/model coverage metrics and safety evidence required for production sign-off.
  • Analyze test failures, capture trace logs, and isolate root causes between application software, base software (AUTOSAR RTE/BSW), and hardware. Document issues clearly in tracking tools (like Jira) and collaborate with developers on resolution.
  • Validate BMS communication interfaces (CAN), diagnostic protocols (UDS) and calibration protocols (XCP) against network databases (DBC/CDD/A2L). Use network analysis tools to verify signal timing, bus load, and network management.
  • Drive the automation of regression test suites. Integrate automated MiL/SiL/HiL test execution into continuous integration pipelines (e.g. Jenkins, Bamboo or GitLab CI) to accelerate the software release cycle.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, software engineering, controls, or a related field.
  • At least four years of professional experience in automotive embedded systems validation, specifically focusing on EV powertrain, BMS, or high-voltage electronic control units (ECUs).
  • Hands-on experience configuring, programming, and running tests on automated HiL test benches.
  • Practical experience with low-voltage and high-voltage test setups, including custom wiring harness fabrication, relay integration, and the layout of terminal block circuits within test benches.
  • Proficiency in writing automated test scripts using Python, MATLAB/Simulink Test or CAPL.
  • Experience implementing & managing Continuous Integration (CI) workflows for automated test execution.
  • Deep proficiency using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and digital multimeters to capture and analyze waveforms, diagnose electrical noise, and debug physical communication interfaces (like CAN or SPI) on the test bench.
  • Practical experience using ALM systems (like Polarion) to manage test specifications and link them back to engineering requirements.
  • Solid working knowledge of ISO 26262 software and system verification processes, including structural coverage.
  • Strong analytical skills for debugging embedded C code, reviewing AUTOSAR ARXML interfaces, and troubleshooting electrical test setups.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Prior experience validation-testing high voltage traction battery systems, cell supervisory circuits, or high-voltage isolation monitoring.
  • Experience building or modifying real-time plant models in MATLAB/Simulink for high-voltage battery physics and thermal characteristics.
  • Familiarity with Vector tools (CANoe, CANalyzer, Canape, Candela Studio) for bus simulation, calibration and UDS diagnostics testing.
