Summary
About the Role
As a Programmer Analyst at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, you will help turn data into meaningful insights that improve patient care, strengthen operations, and support financial performance.
This role is an important part of our move toward value-based care. You will build tools and dashboards that help clinical and operational teams understand performance, track key metrics, and make informed decisions that impact patient outcomes.
You will also support key clinical applications and partner closely with teams across the organization to ensure our data is accurate, accessible, and easy to use. The starting annual salary for this position is $95,406 and this can include a full comprehensive benefits package.
What You’ll Do
- Design and develop dashboards and data models that support clinical, operational, and financial decision-making
- Write and maintain complex SQL queries to extract and transform data from multiple systems
- Support value-based care initiatives by delivering insights tied to quality metrics and performance goals
- Partner with clinical leaders, quality teams, and IT to understand data needs and translate them into solutions
- Maintain clear and consistent data definitions so teams can trust and understand the data
- Troubleshoot data issues and ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency across systems
- Provide support for clinical applications, analytics tools, and dashboards
- Work with external vendors and internal teams to resolve system issues and support ongoing improvements
- Support users in understanding and using dashboards and reports effectively
What You’ll Bring
We’re looking for someone who is curious, collaborative, and comfortable working with both data and people.
You will be successful in this role if you have:
- Strong SQL skills, with the ability to write complex queries independently
- Experience working with relational databases such as MySQL, MariaDB, or SQL Server
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric or Power BI, including dataflows and semantic models
- A solid understanding of hospital or clinical workflows and how data supports them
- Experience building or supporting dashboards, reports, or analytics tools
- The ability to troubleshoot data issues and ensure data quality and integrity
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with both technical and non-technical teams
- Experience gathering requirements and partnering with subject matter experts
- Experience with healthcare data standards such as HL7, FHIR, ICD, or CPT
- Experience with PHP or Python
- Experience providing advanced (Tier 3) application support

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- Master's degree in computer science, engineering, data science, management information systems or a related field; or
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, data science, management information systems or a related field and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time software development experience; or
- Associates degree in computer science, engineering, data science, management information systems or a related field and the equivalent of four (4) years of full-time software development experience; or
- High School diploma or High School Equivalency diploma with a diploma or certificate in a computer science, or related field and the equivalent of six (6) years of full-time software development experience.
NOTE: Degrees must be conferred by an accredited school, college, or university, or by an institution recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and/or Health Research Incorporated as adhering to acceptable educational standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relational database experience (MySQL, MariaDB or MS SQL Server) is required. Candidate must be able to develop complex data queries in SQL with minimal guidance.
- The candidate must also have experience with the Microsoft Fabric platform or Power BI, Data Flows, and Semantic Models.
- Heavy understanding of clinical, hospital workflows required.
- Familiarity with healthcare data exchange standards (HL7, FHIR, ICD, CPT, etc) is advantageous.
- Must have excellent communication and analytical skills.
- Required experience working with subject matter experts to gather requirements, test, and maintain data sets, reports and dashboards.
- Preferred candidates would have experience developing with PHP and providing tier 3 application support.
