Position Overview

We are recruiting for a Van Driver to join our Sidcup branch. This is a customer-facing delivery role responsible for delivering fencing, timber, landscaping and building materials safely and efficiently to trade and retail customers. The successful candidate will represent Lawsons professionally, provide excellent customer service and ensure deliveries are completed accurately, on time and in line with company procedures.

Working Hours

This is a full-time, permanent position based at our Sidcup branch. Working hours are 7.00 - 4.30pm Monday to Friday plus 1 in 2 Saturdays 08.00 - 12.00.

Main Responsibilities

  • Load, secure and deliver fencing, timber, landscaping and building materials to customers across the local area.
  • Complete delivery routes safely, efficiently and in accordance with agreed schedules.
  • Carry out appropriate vehicle and load safety checks before and during each shift.
  • Ensure all products are checked against delivery notes and handled carefully to prevent damage.
  • Provide a professional, helpful and customer-focused service at every delivery.
  • Obtain proof of delivery and accurately report any shortages, damages, delivery issues or customer queries.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, branch colleagues, transport teams and the delivery coordinator.
  • Assist with loading and unloading products, including manual handling of heavy or awkward materials.
  • Keep the delivery vehicle clean, secure and well maintained, reporting defects or faults promptly.
  • Follow all relevant driving, health and safety, manual handling and company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure delivery paperwork, vehicle records and other required documentation are completed accurately.
  • Support the branch and yard teams with general duties when not out on deliveries.
  • Undertake other reasonable driving, delivery and branch duties as required.

Qualifications And Skills

  • Full UK driving licence with a clean or acceptable driving record.
  • Previous experience as a van driver, delivery driver, multi-drop driver, trade delivery driver or in a similar customer-facing role is essential.
  • Experience delivering building materials, timber, fencing, landscaping products or other heavy or bulky goods is also essential.
  • Good knowledge of local roads and the ability to plan and follow delivery routes effectively.
  • Professional, polite and confident communication skills.
  • Customer-focused approach with a commitment to providing reliable and helpful service.
  • Physically fit and able to load, unload and handle heavy or awkward materials safely.
  • Good attention to detail when checking products, delivery notes and vehicle documentation.
  • Reliable, punctual and able to work independently while also contributing positively to a branch team.
  • Positive attitude towards health and safety and a commitment to following safe working practices.
