Wigan & Leigh College and University Centre is the leading Further Education provider for a community of around 350,000 people, delivering skills, knowledge, and confidence to help individuals and businesses progress. As the North-West Construction Excellence College (CTEC), one of ten colleges selected nationally by the Department for Education, it plays a key role in transforming construction training in the UK. The college works with more than 1,500 employers, offering strong pathways into apprenticeships and employment and developing the skilled workforce of tomorrow. Significant investment in technical learning environments, including the redevelopment of the Parsons Walk Campus, supports cutting-edge construction and technical education. As a University Centre and lead partner in the Greater Manchester Institute of Technology, the college provides vocational and higher technical routes from Entry Level to postgraduate study, focused on opportunity and economic growth for Wigan and Leigh.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Wigan, offering opportunities across various construction disciplines at Wigan & Leigh College and University Centre. Team members in these construction roles will support teaching, training, and practical delivery in areas such as building, architecture-related studies, and construction management, ensuring learners develop industry-relevant skills. Responsibilities may include supervising workshops and site-based activities, preparing learning materials and resources, and maintaining safe, compliant learning environments. The role involves liaising with employers and industry partners, contributing to curriculum development aligned with current construction standards, and supporting learners through assessment, feedback, and guidance. Collaboration with colleagues across the College and University Centre will be key to delivering high-quality construction education and helping learners progress into apprenticeships, employment, or further study.

- Candidates should possess practical skills and experience in Construction, with knowledge of industry standards, site practices, and health and safety regulations.
- Candidates should possess skills in Architecture or built environment design, including an understanding of plans, drawings, and construction detailing.
- Candidates should possess skills in Budgeting and basic project or cost management to support planning, resource allocation, and efficient delivery of construction activities.
- Candidates should possess skills in Inspection and quality control, including the ability to assess work against specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Candidates should possess proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for documentation, reporting, and preparation of teaching and learning materials.
- Relevant construction-related qualifications (e.g., NVQ, City & Guilds, HNC/HND, degree in Construction, Architecture, or Civil Engineering) are highly beneficial.
- Experience in teaching, training, or mentoring in a vocational or technical setting, or a willingness to work towards a teaching qualification, is advantageous.
