VAT Accountant - Liverpool Based

About the Role

We are looking for a VAT Accountant to join a European Tax Centre of Excellence within a leading international organisation. This role will focus on the day-to-day VAT accounting and compliance activities across a portfolio of European and international markets. You will be responsible for preparing VAT returns, completing VAT reconciliations, investigating discrepancies and ensuring all indirect tax reporting is accurate, complete, and submitted on time.

Working closely with Finance, Accounting, Tax, external advisors, and other internal stakeholders, you will play an important role in maintaining strong VAT controls and supporting the business with VAT-related queries.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accountant with VAT experience who wants to develop their knowledge across multiple European jurisdictions within an international environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly, and annual VAT returns across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Prepare other indirect tax filings and reports, including sales listings, purchase listings, domestic listings, Intrastat, and SAF-T.
  • Complete VAT General Ledger reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies and outstanding items.
  • Reconcile GL sales against VAT-reported sales and investigate any variances.
  • Review VAT transactions and support the accuracy and completeness of VAT accounting records.
  • Assist with the maintenance of VAT codes and VAT code tables within the accounting system.
  • Prepare VAT submission documentation and obtain the necessary internal approvals.
  • Coordinate and follow up on VAT payment requests and ensure all supporting documentation is appropriately archived.
  • Respond to VAT-related queries from Finance and other business stakeholders.
  • Support VAT audits and liaise with external advisors and tax authorities when required.
  • Monitor changes to local VAT legislation and identify relevant compliance requirements.
  • Support the Tax Technology team with testing and implementation of VAT-related system requirements.
  • Contribute to process improvements, standardisation, automation, and VAT risk management initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate VAT records and ensure all reporting deadlines are consistently met.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
