VAT Consultant Job Description

This is a client facing role (generally by email but via Teams if and when needed), that requires expertise in complex VAT matters, the ability to think cases through, and to deliver clear, actionable written advice across a wide range of scenarios. You will work closely with the Consultancy Manager, your fellow consultants (tax and VAT) and a team of other advice line tax/VAT advisors.

On a day-to-day basis consultancy team members correspond with accountants, establish how we can assist them and their end clients, follow up with a quote and if we get the go ahead schedule the work and turn it around within a few weeks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing VAT consultancy on a range of VAT matters whilst working within the consultancy team alongside the consultancy manager and administration team.
  • Written consultancy must offer best practice and commercially practical solutions in the written format, by disseminating information from the client to form a clear view and exhibit commercial awareness ensuring a positive attitude.
  • Delivering customer focused, pragmatic written consultancy to assist clients with their query.
  • Promoting additional consultancy services where appropriate to support client needs. This can come from additional work from consultancy projects already undertaken.
  • Assisting clients with new consultancy requests and liaising with the consultancy manager and administration team.
  • Working effectively with the wider consultancy, advice line and business development teams to support consistent delivery to clients, ensuring continuity of advice and practical support for more complex/involved client support issues where required.
  • Carrying out any other duties that are deemed appropriate from time to time as directed by the company.
  • Always displaying integrity and professionalism and being self-motivated throughout, and maintaining utmost confidentiality is crucial.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Ideally, Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA), or
  • Proven experience in practice at VAT Manager/Consultant level or above
  • Strong technical knowledge across all areas of VAT/the ability to grasp new areas
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
