VAT – Senior Manager
Join a new and entrepreneurial VAT practice where you will have a genuine opportunity to help build something from the ground up.
As a VAT Manager, you will play a leading role in the growth of our VAT practice, combining deep technical VAT expertise with senior client ownership, project leadership, and business development. You will help shape our client offering, propositions, and ways of working as the practice develops.
The work is varied and no two days are quite the same. You could be leading advice on a complex cross-border supply chain matter, overseeing a client’s VAT compliance challenge, developing a new opportunity, or helping shape the future direction of the practice.
This is an opportunity to have a real voice in a growing practice. You will have significant autonomy to take ownership, develop areas of expertise, and influence how we deliver VAT services, while working closely with experienced senior members of the team.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of complex UK and international VAT advisory and compliance engagements, providing technically robust, practical, and commercially focused advice.
- Own senior client relationships, acting as a trusted adviser and managing projects from initial scoping through to delivery.
- Oversee a varied portfolio of VAT work, determining the appropriate approach, managing delivery, and identifying wider risks, opportunities, and solutions for clients.
- Lead the development of CFGI’s VAT technology capability, including ERP systems, tax engines, digital reporting, automation, AI, and agentic workflows, and help shape how technology is embedded into the client offering.
- Drive business development activity, identifying new opportunities, developing client propositions, and contributing to the growth of the VAT practice.
- Help shape the future direction of the practice, including its propositions, processes, and ways of working.
- Develop and coach colleagues, supporting the growth of the team and sharing technical and client-management expertise.
- Work closely with senior members of the team to develop the practice and identify opportunities across the broader CFGI offering.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
