We are looking for a Vehicle Build Team Leader to lead and coordinate a team of Vehicle Technicians supporting an automotive programme from pre-production through to series production, within the new Birmingham-based Car Build facility. Responsible for the safety, efficiency, and quality of vehicle build activities. Overseeing vehicle assembly, modification, rework, and rectification activities while ensuring programme timing and quality requirements are achieved.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, supervise, and coordinate a team of Vehicle Technicians and Operatives across pre-production and production vehicle build activities.
- Plan, allocate, and monitor daily work activities to ensure build schedules and programme timing targets are achieved.
- Ensure vehicle assembly, disassembly, modification, rework, and refit activities are completed to the required quality and engineering standards.
- Provide technical guidance and hands-on support to technicians during build, investigation, rectification, and engineering change activities.
- Ensure all activities are completed in accordance with the build documentation, and work instructions.
- Monitor vehicle build quality through regular inspections, audits, and verification activities.
- Support the implementation of engineering changes, quality improvements, and containment actions.
- Coordinate issue resolution activities and escalate build, quality, or resource concerns as required.
- Ensure accurate completion of build records, vehicle configuration information, and rework documentation.
- Support vehicle preparation for customer events, validation programmes, management reviews, and production readiness activities.
- Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Programme teams to ensure successful delivery of programme objectives.
- Drive continuous improvement activities to improve safety, quality, delivery, and efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Environmental, and company policies, promoting a safe working culture and high housekeeping standards in line with 5S principles.
- Monitor team attendance, performance, training, and development requirements.
- Support resource planning, overtime requirements, and peak build periods to meet business and programme demands.

Who are we looking for?
- Level 3 NVQ, in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or equivalent experience in Automotive Engineering, or a related discipline
- Proven experience within automotive manufacturing, vehicle build, prototype, pre-production, or production environments.
- Previous experience leading, supervising, mentoring, or coordinating technical teams.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle assembly, disassembly, rework, rectification, and build processes.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, build specifications, work instructions, and technical documentation.
- Experience managing engineering changes, build issues, and quality concerns.
- Strong organisational, planning, and communication skills.
- Experience maintaining build records and supporting configuration control processes.
- Previous experience in a Team Leader, Supervisor, Lead Technician, or Manufacturing Team Leader role.
- Experience supporting vehicle launch, pilot build, low-volume manufacturing, or series production programmes.
